Getting out there.

As a young studio here in town we tend to find ourselves dreaming BIG.  Naturally, we would want our own TV channel, unfortunately, we fall just several million dollars short of creating a broadcast channel.  So, we decided to syndicate ourselves on the WWW instead.  Much cheaper, and it is possible that we could reach an even larger audience!  When I say we have syndicated ourselves, I simply mean, our shorts are available for immediate viewing on MULTIPLE online destinations.

Our core channels:

youtube.com

blip.tv

metacafe.com

revver.com

and you can always view our shorts at QuarterOrange.com

You will also be finding some of our content on more sites in the future so keep looking for updates!

Why are we on multiple networks?  Being on multiple networks will not only allow us to reach a larger audience by penetrating some niche corners of online video.  This idea goes with our belief that the viewing experience should always be enjoyable.  By spreading out across the web our viewers will have the option to watch our content on whatever channel they prefer.  The Audience gains CONTROL.

As independent filmmakers trying to penetrate the web market we know quality and quantity can be equally important.  We strive for excellence in quality and frankly, we feel it is being taken from us when we try to distribute online.  We have no choice when it comes to the viewing experience.  Every video site presents our content a little differently some for better some for worse, but either way, we didn't choose it.  We only have this option on our own website, but what if the audience doesn't want to jump around to different sites?  Isn't that why these aggregators became popular in the first place?

We want you to watch our shorts, but we want you to be able to watch them on a site you prefer.  Whether you want the highest quality, fastest load, easiest to share, genre specific or ratings friendly you will be able to find us.  Have control, watch it where you enjoy it.

Just a reminder to constantly push for innovation in online video quality and PRESENTATION.

Creativity and Other Non Sequiturs

Creativity can be sort of a tough thing. This may simply be a personal issue I'm projecting into a generalization, but creativity can be a touchy state. There's a lot that can hinder the creative process; stress, workload, personal issues, life in general. Of course there are certainly creatives who thrive in just such environments. Personally, I find time management to be extremely helpful, including budgeting personal time. By personal time I mean time spent not working on stuff that needs to get done, time spend reading, free-writing, meditating, whatever. For filmmakers such as ourselves this could be making some music, drawing, basically not working on movies in order to keep from becoming jaded on the process. Just taking time for a little self-reflection and doing something you like, no matter how much work is stacking up. Refocus, re-energize.

Case in point; I'm currently working on a Robot gallery which will go up in November. Its something creative that I can work on when I need a break from making those movies.

I'm using recycled materials, aside from ink and Elmer's glue, and maybe some rivets. But anyway, FACT: Robot will be making a gallery appearance here in Portland, I'll keep you posted as we get closer!

Making the future happen!

This past week Jason and I have decided to buckle down and get this feature we want to write underway. We, along with Walker, met up tuesday night and broke down the first act scene by scene. It's looking pretty solid, and we have a good breakdown for the rest of the film, though no scene list yet.

We are hoping to shoot this feature next fall, and for that reason have decided to make a trip out to eastern/central Oregon the first weekend in October. We're going to drive through the Maupin area, down through bend to Christmas Valley to check out Crack-in-the-Ground and Fort Rock for location ideas. We may make it all they way down to the Alvord Desert and Steens Mt. area. If you have any experience in these areas and can think of some sweet places for us to check out, give us a shot. We're looking for any kind of striking landscape for traveling shots, as well as desert type places. We'd definitely appreciate it!

NEW releases!

HELLO!  Today is a great day, for more than one reason.  Not only is the sun poking it's head through the clouds, but we also have NEW content!

TONIGHT!  Is the premier of TOYMAKER a short film by Selena Persiani.  We all helped out on the project and are very excited to see it premier tonight at the Hollywood theatre.  It will be playing alongside other short films from the Art Institute of Portland.  Show starts @ 7pm but be there early!  The auditorium is expected to be overly full due to an OMPA event that is going down at the same time.  For refreshments before the show, you can probably find us at the Laurelwood brewery chowing down on pizza and their delicious Red Ale.

In other release news.  Quarter Orange has released TWO films to the WORLD WIDE WEB aka:www

CAGED ANIMALS & THE OLD MAN AND HIS GRANDSON

Both short films were uploaded to Dailymotion and have now been linked to Metacafe.  The films will be spreading to other online outlets in the near future.  These films will stand out against our current online offering as they exhibit high production value with precision quality.  So please check them out!  Then tell all of your friends and maybe even a few strangers!

A little less talk

A revolutionary new product is coming out.  You just landed the commercial work for them.  Who do you tell first?  NO ONE. Why?  YOU CAN'T.

Quarter Orange has come across a similar scenario.  It is not an uncommon situation for a client to ask you to sign a NON-DISCLOSURE AGREEMENT.  Basically stating you will not talk about the product or disclose any information to anyone outside of the agreement.  These agreements can last for any length of time and every agreement will vary depending on the company and the project.  What happens if you break the agreement?  That will usually be covered in the agreement and if it is not, just know that it is a legal binding document and you could end up with a full legal assault.  EEEK!

WHY?  Why go through the hassle?  Why WOULDN'T you want more people to hear about the product? There could be any number of reasons for a non-disclosure agreement.  Companies spend a lot of time figuring out exactly how they want a product released and have some random person in the chain speaking too soon tear apart a marketing plan.  If a company is coming out with a truly revolutionary product then they want to keep their advantage for as long as possible.  That way they can get maximum initial interest and keep other companies from trying to copy them.  Maybe your client doesn't have the patent for their product yet and you decided to blog about the product.  Anyone could come across the information and take it for themselves.

Non-disclosures help protect intellectual property, but allow others to become part of it, so don't be upset when you are handed a copy to sign, it is usually nothing personal...
