NEW releases!

HELLO!  Today is a great day, for more than one reason.  Not only is the sun poking it's head through the clouds, but we also have NEW content!

TONIGHT!  Is the premier of TOYMAKER a short film by Selena Persiani.  We all helped out on the project and are very excited to see it premier tonight at the Hollywood theatre.  It will be playing alongside other short films from the Art Institute of Portland.  Show starts @ 7pm but be there early!  The auditorium is expected to be overly full due to an OMPA event that is going down at the same time.  For refreshments before the show, you can probably find us at the Laurelwood brewery chowing down on pizza and their delicious Red Ale.

Both short films were uploaded to Dailymotion and have now been linked to Metacafe.  The films will be spreading to other online outlets in the near future.  These films will stand out against our current online offering as they exhibit high production value with precision quality.  So please check them out!  Then tell all of your friends and maybe even a few strangers!

Ai Portland Senior Screening Tomorrow Night!

Hey everyone, it's that time again, time to watch some awesome short films at an awesome theater. Not only is it the AiPD Senior Screening it is also this month's OMPA meeting. Word on the street is there will be beer and wine there for those of age...

A little less talk

A revolutionary new product is coming out.  You just landed the commercial work for them.  Who do you tell first?  NO ONE. Why?  YOU CAN'T.

Quarter Orange has come across a similar scenario.  It is not an uncommon situation for a client to ask you to sign a NON-DISCLOSURE AGREEMENT.  Basically stating you will not talk about the product or disclose any information to anyone outside of the agreement.  These agreements can last for any length of time and every agreement will vary depending on the company and the project.  What happens if you break the agreement?  That will usually be covered in the agreement and if it is not, just know that it is a legal binding document and you could end up with a full legal assault.  EEEK!

WHY?  Why go through the hassle?  Why WOULDN'T you want more people to hear about the product? There could be any number of reasons for a non-disclosure agreement.  Companies spend a lot of time figuring out exactly how they want a product released and have some random person in the chain speaking too soon tear apart a marketing plan.  If a company is coming out with a truly revolutionary product then they want to keep their advantage for as long as possible.  That way they can get maximum initial interest and keep other companies from trying to copy them.  Maybe your client doesn't have the patent for their product yet and you decided to blog about the product.  Anyone could come across the information and take it for themselves.

Non-disclosures help protect intellectual property, but allow others to become part of it, so don't be upset when you are handed a copy to sign, it is usually nothing personal...

the day is nigh....

Selena's directorial Senior Thesis project, and latest Quarter Orange production, "Toymaker" is almost done! We've been getting finished effects shots back from Loren Judah, and they are looking fantastic! Chris Willet has a great cut nearly done, and I'm working away on sound. Andy Combs was kind enough to create the score, and (as usual) it is amazing.

The Screening will be September 17th, 2009 at the Hollywood Theatre. Also this screening will be "Film Industry Night". We will have the OMPA president Tom McFadden there to give a little talk about the OMPA's apprenticship program, plus a larger than usual crowd of industry proffessionals.

Then we graduate. I'd like to congratulate everyone graduating from AI this term a little early. (Being one of them) I know we all need a little encouragement. We're going to do it! Graduation from the Art Institute is a strange thing, I've watched all of those within the Quarter Orange circle go through it. You are excited, and scared, and happy, and fearful of those loan payments, and nervous, and excited (did I say that already?). It's going to be awesome.

Then it's time to get to work! QO has got a few things on the horizon, much of it in early planning stages right now, but soon I will have actual time to devote to these projects, without worrying about the class I might be failing (as of this posting I am not failing any classes, which is good).

Oh yeah, and Selena and I are getting married, thank you to all of our well-wishers, and the engagement/KG's birthday bash was amazing. So pretty much I'm saying is the future is bright (orange)!

Absolutely stunning, and very refreshing sci-fi set in African slums. One of the best films I've seen in a good while! And made for around $30 million, a relatively small budget.

ELI AND SELENA ARE GETTING MARRIED! Sincere congratulations to both of them, we wish them luck and happiness all their days. This comes in conjunction with KG's approaching B-Day! If you're in the Portland-Metro area, come out to 7700 NE Alameda for a joint Engagement-Birthday celebration.


We recently shot the remaining footage needed for a short animation slated for October about a housefly with really bad luck. More updates to come on that soon!

And last, but certainly not least, QO's very own 'Dos Hermanos Tacos,' directed by Eli, has screened at Tulsa, and is now on its way to the Chicago United Film Festival, with no sign of stopping there.

MEATSPACKLE

So I've decided to kick off a little exercise:

Memorable and Extraordinary Actors To Seek a Possible Awesome Collaboration with Later
(MEATSPACL - or - Meatspackle)

I guess the reasoning is this: Hollywood actors aren't as far out of reach as they sometimes seem. Although actors are obviously selective about the projects they sign onto, the real hurdle with guild actors is being able to pay them. Really the only difference between Hollywood media company a young media company like Quarter Orange, is money. Anyway, we may not be able to get ahold of Gary Oldman or Michael Caine just yet, but there are a ton of talented actors who are a bit more within reach.

So a Meatspackle will consist of one actor, a little background, and a film they appear in to check out. Awesome!

CASE IN POINT:

Watched a Film called Henry Poole Is Here, directed by Mark Pellington (the guy who directed The Mothman Prophecies and a bunch of U2 videos.) Interesting, atmospheric sort of movie; super-depressed Luke Wilson buys a house to fix up an sell, but it's got a Christ-like stain on an outside wall that seems to heal people. The performance that stood out to me was a character named Patience, played by Rachel Seiferth. Her character can barely see, wears thick, thick glasses, but touches Luke's wall stain and miraculously regains her vision. She's only been in a few other films, and is apparently working as a personal assistant, but she was totally awesome. Come on up to Portland and we'll make a movie Rachel Seiferth!

Dos Hermanos at the Tulsa United Film Fest

Greetings from t-town!

Dos Hermanos Tacos played at the Tulsa United Film Festival this weekend and it was awesome! The Tulsa United Film Festival was held at the beautifully renovated Circle Cinema. Jason Connell the creator of the festival is a native Tulsan, transplanted to L.A. Jason (and Marta, and every involved with the United Film Festivals) were really nice and had a well put together festival. The TUFF, is part of a series of festivals travelling from L.A., through Chicago, Tulsa, New York, and London. To learn more about the festival go here.

After the screening I was allowed to come up and answer some questions from the audience, ranging from "where did you find this location?" to "Who was that hot girl?" (I just kept driving, and my girlfriend Selena Persiani, who has been in almost every single one of my movies). The pictures above were taken by a photographer by the name of Colin Roohan.

Tulsa has been great. I got to see my family and friends and show them what I've been up to. Dos Hermanos Tacos continues it's journey in the festival circuit.
