All right, so we weren't as back as we thought, but now we're really back

Our last post was in april. That was awhile ago, sorry. Things have been busy over at QOHQ.

Since our last post we successfully completed principal photography on Co's film "Forge." The production went as smoothly as could be hoped for, no days over 8 hours, spent a few nights at a cabin on Mt. Hood, all in all a good time, with a good crew.

We have also finished the principal photography for Selena's film, "Toymaker." We shot for three days in the goldsmith building, using pieces of the set from forge that were recommissioned from a lab to a grungy apartment. Selena and Eli are now mired in putting together hard drives to send down to our friend Loren Judah in LA, who is going to help with some of the composting and effects work.

Our friend over at Vonburgo Corp, Jed Burger, also shot his senior film which a good number of the crew worked on. It was a good weekend of grindhouse movie-making, spending another three days up at the cabin. On the home front, like we stated before, we landed a three web spot gig for a local tequila company, Yeyo tequila. During the month of June we were able to shoot, edit and deliver our three spots. Jon is very happy with the results and is planning on releasing them one at a time at the end of July. Yeyo Tequila will become available the 23rd of July, as will our first spot, we'll let you know more details as the date draws near.

Jason is still working on his animation, and it's looking better then ever, I can't wait to see the finished product.

We are in pre-production on a stop-motion animation with Gelsey Kurrasch which we will be shooting at the end of this month. Keep your eye on the blog for updates and photos from the process. We will be shot listing this weekend, with storyboards soon to follow.

We're back!!

It was a long, rainy, cold winter, but finally, Spring has returned and QO is back in the game! Watch for our new website designed by Jason, you guys are going to love it! More movies, coooler buttons, new design!

Eli premiered his Senior Thesis film "Dos Hermanos Tacos" at the Art Institute's Senior Showcase at the Hollywood Theater on March 26. The crowd seemed to enjoy the film, laughing at all the right parts, and now it's time to take the movie to festivals! Also, Erin Marrs' film "Caged Animals" premiered. Well written and directed, produced by Walker, shot by Cameron Carey, man that movie is good! Friend of QO, Anthony Gainer's film "Jacked" was effing hilarious too! Pat's movie "Waiting For Rusty" co-produced by Eli, and directed by Nate Baston looks beautiful!

KG brought some money into the QO coffers by cutting a new reel together for a local musician doing scores for shorts and commercials. And Jason is working on a new animation, that is looking SICK!!

Oh yeah...We got paid work! Walker got us hooked up with a local company about to release a new tequila by the name of Yeyo...Yes. Yeyo....anyway, we met with the creator of the company, Jon, pitched him some ideas for the commercial, showed him our work, and what direction we wanted to go with, and we've got the green light. Cool.

We are also doing a feature. This isn't a QO production, but we are all involved. Jason is Directing, Walker does data managment, Eli is AD, and KG is grip/swing. Pat is shooting, Selena is doing Art...Jeez, this might as well be a QO production. But this is Co's baby. Go check out the website theforgeproject.com. This movie is going to be sweet!

As soon as we get out of production on The Forge, we start principal photography for Selena's Senior Film tentatively titled "Toy Maker's Reality". So, we've got a lot of things going on. It's good to come out of winter, with a whole set of opportunities. The birds are singing, the flowers are blooming, and all quarters of the orange are busy as hell.

Breaking, Entering, and Grocery Store Mayhem.

Greetings for your favorite Portland Oregon production company!

Well our new year is underway and we are right back into the thick of everything! First, we just want to congratulate Quarter Orange contributors Kayla Dettman and Patrick LaValley for being accepted to the Dam Film Fest in Las Vegas. Both will be attending in person, so good luck guys!

Eli’s film Dos Hermanos Tacos is coming along quite nicely, sound work begins soon, but so far….Hilarious! Speaking of Hilarious, Eli is also producing another movie, shooting in early March. This is Andy Best’s senior Thesis entitled “Loss Prevention” about the crazy crap that goes on in a grocery store. It’s going to be a lot of work but worth it! Another funny short, Eli is super excited about this.

We shot a little piece, tentatively entitled “Casual B & E” about well, breaking and entering. Jason directed this piece, while KG shot it. Jason and Walker conversated at they tied up friend of QO, Rachel (last name here) in Quarter Orange contributor Kale’s new house. This is definitely an in-house production! It looks great, so be watching for that to hit the interwebs soon!

The 1st annual QO summit is set for this weekend! The “Seeds” Jason, Walker, KG, and Eli, will attend the annual summit meeting for year planning and team building exercises. Changes to the website, new movies up, and future projects ideation and planning are the goals of this years summit.

Happy New Year!

Well we made it to 2009, and it's shaping up to be a great year! We hope everyone had a great New Year's Eve! After all the snow and the holidays we're all just recuperating. We were able to get a quick project done during the holidays. Quarter Orange was contracted by Olga Churkina to make a demo reel for a job application in Ireland. The end product turned out nicely, and we want to wish Olga good luck, in all her endeavors.
Since we are on the subject, I also want to take a minute to talk about client services here at Quarter Orange. Q.O. is a creative content production company. We make our own content because that is what we love. But as a group, we have the skills and desire to do anything for the needs of a client, we just love making movies. The snowpacalypse continues

Well the screening was amazing, This Chemical Life turned out really well. Rave reviews for TCL and In the Midst of Recklessness. I personally spoke to the President of AI whose head was blown. I think all the actors who came were suitably pleased. I know Kale spoke to Robert Projanski from ITMOR and he was extremely happy with the result. I'll just go ahead and say it, maybe the best all around screening yet. No groaners this time, not a one. I think we were all really proud to attend the Art Institute, with such very talented graduates.

Congratulations to everyone who graduated on Friday. Jason and Kyle walked, along with Quarter Orange contributor Kale Heily. Also, Matthew Bickerstaff, Karen Jackson-Shorb, and of course, the multi-talented cohort Alex Menduluk.

In other news, the snowpacalypse continues, rainy Portland looks like a freaking Norman Rockwell painting of christmas. We're still planning a Q.O. summit for the beginning of 2009. We've got alot of good ideas floating around for the next year. As a group Quarter Orange LLC is going to make a business plan, at their yearly Q.O. retreat. Oh hell yeah. going pro.

The abomidable snowman attacks Portland

Snow! Holy crap snow! It's all anyone can talk about these days. We got hit with the big storm on Sunday but it stayed around, and now we've got more coming! Regardless, we're having the screening, rain or snow, or ice, or a freaking monsoon we will be at the Hollywood at 6pm and 7:30pm this Thursday, the 18th.

Come hell or high water we will be in the theater (the little one upstairs, boooo....oh well) watching "This Chemical Life", "In the Midst of Recklessness", and other fine pieces of cinema. I finished the sound design on TCL, it sounding mighty nice. ITMOR is pretty much done. Quarter Orange represent!

Be watching for the new "Dos Hermanos Tacos" website coming up soon. We'll have a trailer up and pictures of all the cast and crew plus info on screenings and awards. We are currently looking around for distribution for Walker's piece "The Old Man and his Grandson". I am personally overseeing avenues of a more religious nature, as it is a morality tale that could play in churches when a sermon is about caring for the elderly. Here's to hoping for our first distribution deal.

I did want to take a little time to talk about "Caged Animals". This is another Quarter Orange production, written and directed by the talented Erin Marrs, produced by Walker. There were some early production problems, mainly associated with a pregnant elephant, but a small crew was able to get in and shoot the movie in a day! I saw some of the dailies, it looks great! Cameron Carey did a great job (as usual) and this is going to be another good one from Q.O. for the screening. Late congrats go to Erin and Walker for getting production wrapped, it was a long time coming so watch for Caged Animals at the next screening, and (hopefully) around other screenings and festivals.

Willie Bobo and the Gaucho

Hope you all had a great Thanksgiving! Haven’t been able to get a blog out with all the stuff going on. We shot another QO production “Waiting For Rusty” this is Pat LaValley’s project with Nate Baston directing. We got into the Tanker, a bar over on 49th and Hawthorne. Thanks go out once again to Tim Smale, for letting us get into his place!

We shot on the Red! That’s right! 3k resolution! It’s amazing, if you haven’t heard about the red go check it out. Waiting For Rusty starred Pat Janowski, Brian Ries, Luke Clemmens and James Sweet. The lighting and art direction were amazing, and we got in and out in 13 hours, movie done.

We’re finishing up the last of “This Chemical Life” and it will be showing at the Hollywood theatre on Thursday December 18. We are all super stoked about the showing. The movie looks great! Also, Kyle Glenn, Jason Windsor, and Kale Heily are graduating December 19. Way to go guys!

Don’t forget to watch out for new stuff from Quarter Orange, we'll have new pieces up and changes to the site, after the first of the year.

"This Chemical Life" Update

With less then two weeks to go until the premiere of "This Chemical Life," things are coming along nicely. Eli and I are working on the sound design every chance we get. We have a total of sixteen hours booked in the studio this weekend, so I think we'll be able to get most of it, if not all of it, done.

The visual effects are looking great thanks to the hard work of Austin Healey and Albert Kay. They should be all done by sunday afternoon, then we have to get them to Jed in order to be cut into the piece.

Speaking of Jed, he has been doing a phenomenal job editing "This Chemical Life," he has been able to capture in the edit, what I have had in my head this entire time.

We will mix the audio towards the middle of next week, and by monday the 15th, the film should be in it's final state.

The Ai Senior Screening will occur on Thursday Dec. 18th at the Hollywood Theater in Portland, OR. There will be two screenings this term, because we are once again in the smaller theater upstairs. The first screening will be at 6:30pm I believe, and the second around 7:30 or 8:00. We will provide more information in the coming week.
