My 3 year old nephew cries at America’s Funniest Home videos. “Uh…Why do I care?” you say. I’ll tell you why. Because I just went to see Paranormal Activity. People really freaked out. I mean seriously, there was this girl on my row that I thought we were going to have to call an ambulance for. I was pretty sure she was going to have a heart attack.

Something that looks like home video now seems more real than something with higher production value. Everybody alive now has at least a passing experience with home movies. That is what made Paranormal Activity (not to mention The Blair Witch Project) so. Freaking. Scary (I mean, to everybody but me, I didn’t get scared….I promise…I did not almost break my fiance’s hand holding it to tightly….seriously….).

Going back to my 3 year old nephew. He loves Transformers 1 and 2. Which has some violence. He laughs and claps, he loves it. But one kick to the nuts on America’s funniest home videos sends him into hysterics. He knows the difference between Hollywood violence and real hijinks that can cause pain.
Which is how a movie made with $11,000, beat Saw IV for the opening weekend. Goodbye torture films, hello, low budget horror! Next up is “The Fourth Kind” starring Mila Jovo…Jovovich? (Crazy ass Eastern European names) These movies break all kind of filmmaking rules, break the fourth wall and address the camera, ideas about resolution and payoff go right out the window. No real script to speak of. All of these things lend a certain amount of realism to the picture that sends audience members screaming from the theater. And I love it.

So if you are looking for a good scare this Halloween season, Paranormal Activity is the way to go, or just wait for the next few low budget horror films the studios will be buying up over the next year. As far as cultural memes go, I am on board with this one. I mean hey, it’s better than vampires.

Xanax ridden snails and deep sea fishing for clients.

Remember the Yeyo commercials we did? Those were awesome! The photography was fantastic, and our talented cast and crew killed it! It took forever to get that song right, but it was definitely worth the effort. I think everyone has really enjoyed the commercial that’s up on Yeyo’s website. But that was just Spot 1, “The look”. The tequila will get out of lock down by the Mexican government (long story short, there’s a lot of bureaucracy, and the Mexican government moves slower than a snail on Xanax). As Yeyo enters the states the next two spots “The Dream” and “The Reality” will be released. For those of you who haven’t seen these, you are in for a treat.

But one client isn’t going to pay the bills, and we’ve got big plans. So we’ve put together an Ad Kit. This is much like our Portfolios we created for graduation, but, even better. We’ve got our newest Reel in there (soon to be released on our website) and a series of pages we created, promoting ourselves and showcasing what we created for Yeyo tequila.

It looks great. I am very grateful for our combined Art School education. I feel like a deep sea fisherman putting a giant piece of bait on the hook (I’ve never been deep sea fishing, don’t they use fish heads for bait?). The bait is good, but are there any fish out there? Or did I buy all these fish heads for nothing?

I prefer to think positive. We are really good at what we do, and that’s because we love to do it. So there must be more clients for us out there, we just gotta throw that bait out there, hold on, and hope for a bite.

October!

You know what I like? Football. And Chili. And jackets. And the color orange. I sure am glad it’s October. Bring on the rain, changing leaves, and Halloween!

We are all pretty excited about this month! I hope everybody saw the clips from Jason and KG’s location scouting last weekend, awesome. We’re all working hard on Robot Apocalypse, the feature.

But that’s not all! We are currently working on a number of smaller projects, including but not limited to: a Thanksgiving celebration, a new robot piece, a series of “fall of…” shorts, and a plan to expand our client base, plus watch for big news around January! (come back soon for more information)

Now that I’ve graduated I finally have the time to do some of the things I actually want to do. So right now, I’m working on a new song for “Fall of the Incan Empire”, which if you guys haven’t seen it yet, DO IT! That movie is hilarious! I hear that everything went really well in at the Chicago United Film Festival last month. Once again, big shout out to Jason Connell, the creator of this wonderful traveling festival! I’m waiting on pins and needles to hear if Dos Hermanos will play in London (how cool would that be?).

So once again, we have quite a bit on our orange plate, and we couldn’t be happier about it. Have an idea for a video? We’d love to hear from you! Shoot one of us an email, all of our contact information can be found through our website. Feel free to peruse the shorts page, (“the juice”) in case you haven’t seen everything. We’re regularly updating it as we create more content. Remember to check back soon for more Quarter Orange News. Until then, have a delicious day today, and a refreshing one tomorrow.
